A Day & Night Retreat for Men & Women
Rivenwood • Ōhau, Horowhenua
19th- 20th September
9:30am Saturday – 1:00pm Sunday
“KEI ROTO I A KOE TŌU AKE MANA”
Within each of us lies the seed of potential
“In order to activate the medicine and find genuine paths forward,
we must enter the territory where our deepest wounds exist and our innate gifts reside.”
— Michael Meade
Nau mai, haere mai koutou,
Welcome.
There is a place in each of us where our deepest wound and our greatest gift occupy the same ground. Many of us have spent years trying to move away from that place — numbing, managing, achieving. This retreat invites you in the opposite direction.
Drawing on the mythopoeic work of Michael Meade (an American author, mythologist and storyteller), pūrākau (stories), movement, and the whenua (land) at Rivenwood; this overnight journey offers space for you to meet yourself more fully — and to find, in what has seemed broken, the very medicine the world needs from you.
This is not a workshop of strategies or frameworks. It is a descent and a return. You will be held by the land, fire, story, your body, and the companionship of others who have chosen to stop running.
“Ultimately, we grow by letting go, by losing who we thought we were and allowing a deeper, wiser sense of self to unfold from within the creative hive of the heart.”— Michael Meade
WHO THIS IS FOR
This retreat is for men and women who:
Feel a persistent sense that they are meant to live more fully — but can’t quite find their path.
Feel a wound (something we all receive early in life) that they sense or wonder may hold something of value, which otherwise makes no sense.
Are navigating a threshold — a career change, loss, relationship shift, or just a deep wondering if there is more in life.
Long for community and depth rather than surface level self help.
Are willing to be moved, challenged, and surprised.
Want to be in this work without alcohol, drugs or substances - THIS WEEKEND WILL BE COMPLETELY SOBER .
WHAT’S INCLUDED:
Space holding and guidance by Matt Lamason.
All meals from Saturday lunch through Sunday lunch (whole-food, lovingly prepared by Matt’s daughter).
Overnight accommodation is encouraged and is in the homestead and surrounding property. Bring your own mattress and sleeping bag.
The house space will be women only for sleeping. Men, please bring a tent and sleeping gear. There are great sheltered spots within the beauty of the land.

Cost: $300 for the full weekend/ Early bird price $250 (If paid before 3rd August)
This will be an intimate event with only 15 spaces - we reserve the right to cancel the event if numbers are too low (full refunds will be given in this situation).
We can cater for dietary requirements - please let us know in the online registration form below when registering.
This is a full weekend experience, we are not offering day or night only experience.

Matt Lamason
Matt is kaitiaki of the whenua at Rivenwood. He has spent the last three years listening with this land, holding conscious dance and men’s circles as well as men’s retreats and community events - all expressions of his journey with soul and connection to place. This event is his first offering for men and women.
Matt is a trained Integral Coach (New Ventures West, San Francisco) and father to three children. He facilitates men’s circles, conscious dance, and loves coaching people’s big ideas or bringing presence to the becoming of others.
After more than 20 years creating and running social businesses Matt now listens to the quiet of the land and his own soul, offering land-based retreats and a myriad of offerings from Rivenwood — the two-acre property in Ōhau, Horowhenua where he lives - a place to come home to yourself.
